Long Description: Top
Visit Lottie's Isle website www.lottiesisle.com for more pictures Naturalists, history buffs, and all those longing for escape into summer... discover the Rideau, its history and beauty from Lottie's Isle.
Lotties Isle is an enchanting timeless summer retreat. Named for the wife Captain Edward Fleming, Steamship captain of the Rideau King and the Rideau Queen. Lottie was the daughter of the original owner of the island, William Hall Sturgeon, a direct descendant of early Ontario pioneers, and her husband Captain Fleming was a direct descendant of William Fleming of the Royal Sappers and Miners who came with Col. By to build the canal .
This charming fully restored century old retreat has been in the same family since the Rideau was constructed. Now, you can enjoy this gem; an exclusive half acre island, located in the heart of the Historic Rideau System on Newboro Lake, close to the mainland, and nestled just off the main channel. The cottage, built in 1895, now has the modern conveniences of washer dryer, dishwasher built in oven, and microwave. The 3 piece bathroom is beautifully restored and updated. (picture) Dine and entertain on the screened veranda (picture) and find soul soothing comfort in the comfortable living room. (picture)
The 3 bedrooms (pictures) all have their intimate touch of class. One bedroom has a double bed, one has 2 twin beds, and one has over sized single bed. All mattresses are brand new. Upstairs there is a romantic screened "sleeping porch". ( picture)
The front of the island faces the main channel and is the "public side" (picture front dock) of the island. The back of the island is very private, (picture private side) and there you can watch deer coming to drink on the shores of the neighbouring island, watch otter play or Ospreys soar.
A 17 by 17 foot screened Gazebo (picture) is centrally located on the island, and there you can watch sunrise or sunset with the beauty of nature touching you and you are free from annoying mosquitos.
Enjoy good swimming, fishing, bird watching, canoeing from Lottie’s Isle. Take a day trip by water to Chaffey's Lock, Jones Falls or Westport, or enjoy a leisurely drive to Kingston 45 minutes away. Canada's capital city Ottawa is only a 1.5 hour drive.

The Rideau Canal Waterway is a boater's paradise, attracting pleasure boats from across North America to travel its 202 kilometre (125 mile) length. The Rideau Waterway, a Canadian National Historic Site and a designated Canadian Heritage River, consists of a series of beautiful lakes and rivers connected by canals. It stretches from Kingston, at the foot of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada's capital. Maintained by Canada's Parks service it is arguably the most scenic waterway in North America. Whether you visit by boat, car, or bicycle, the Rideau has something for you. HERITAGE TOURS
The Rideau has a rich heritage, still very much in evidence today in the form of the locks, operated today much as they were 167 years ago, and the old stone houses, churches and mills of the various communities along the Rideau. The driving tours take you into these heritage areas, with stops at the locks, local museums and other interesting sites.

When you stay at Lottie's Isle you can try the Heritage Tour Central which takes you from Perth to Smiths Falls, down to Kilmarnock Lock, up to Narrows Lock and back to Perth or the Heritage Tour South, which goes up to Kingston Mills Locks, and then takes you through Lyndhurst, Delta, Forfar and over to Chaffey's Lock before returning you to Kingston.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PICNIC TOURS
The object of the picnic tour is to travel back to simpler times. There is no better place to do this than the Rideau. Take a break from fast lives, fast food, and urban pressures. Pack a picnic lunch, your swim gear, a fishing rod, and prepare to relax.
The Picnic Tour South leaves from Kingston and heads north to Jones Falls. It is said that if a young woman donned her white summer frock and was courted at the Jones Falls dam on Victoria Day (May), she would marry her sweetheart within a year.

ECOLOGY TOURS
The Rideau is a host to several different ecosystems. The Frontenac Axis, part of the Canadian Shield, underlies the central Rideau, creating the beautiful Rideau Lakes. Younger sedimentary rocks to the north and south have created gently rolling farming country. Each area presents unique opportunity for wildlife viewing and simply enjoying nature in general.

The Ecology North Tour leaves from Ottawa and takes you to a couple of interesting conservation areas as well as providing an opportunity to visit Rideau River Provincial Park. The Ecology Central Tour leaves from Perth and offers two options, visits to several interesting conservation areas and/or a visit to Murphys Point Provincial Park. The Ecology South Tour leaves from Kingston and heads north to the Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area and then continues on to the Foley Mountain Conservation Area near Westport.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Communities
Several communities are located on the shores of the Rideau Waterway, and all offer services to the boater. Smiths Falls the largest community between Ottawa and Kingston, is close to the halfway point of the Rideau Waterway. The Rideau Waterway passes through the heart of town, and it is well worth while to tie up at the dock and spend a day exploring. Smiths Falls is also home to the Rideau Canal headquarters, the Rideau Canal Museum, and train buffs will enjoy a visit to the Railway Museum. And, of course, anyone with a craving for chocolate will want to take a tour of the Hershey's chocolate factory (tours offered throughout the summer).
There are smaller communities that work hard to cater to the traveler. Westport a short jaunt off the main channel, offers many interesting shops. Merrickville, the Jewel of the Rideau, prides itself in its artistic community, boasting over thirty local artist and artisans. You can also make a nice side trip up the Tay Canal to visit historic Perth.
