Lake Edge Cottages is an Award Winning, Intimate, 4-Season, Pet-Friendly Self-Catering Resort.
Lake Edge Cottages is situated on Katchewanooka Lake in the Kawarthas just minutes north of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and 1.5 hours from Toronto. Our cozy cottages, arranged along the shore sacrifice nothing in the way of total comfort and relaxation. Our accommodations are smoke-free, fully equipped including free high speed wireless internet access, from one and two bedroom cottages to the Kawartha Suite. Some include outdoor private hot tub, fireplaces and decks. All with sensational views of the lake and the sunsets. We welcome couples and families who yearn for outdoor pleasures, rustic charm and an unhurried pace and of course your pets if you are lucky to have some.

The Village of Lakefield, a 5 minute drive south, will provide you with all amenities, wonderful food shops and restaurants. Within walking distance is the hamlet of Young's Point located at Lock 27. There you'll find shopping, walking trails and three restaurants to choose from. The City of Peterborough, a 15 minute drive south, is home to the World's Highest Hydraulic Lift Lock, the Canadian Canoe Museum and more. Lake Edge's central location is perfect for exploring the local area or planning day trips to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Algonquin Park, Kingston or Ottawa.

Lake Edge is open for all four seasons and our 12.5 acre property and location in the Kawarthas, provides the young and old alike with an astounding number of activities.
Canoeing/Kayaking
Lake Edge has canoes and sit-on kayaks on site.
Swimming/Beach
At Lake Edge you can swim from shore, dock or raft. The water is shallow near shore and suitable for both children and dogs unaccustomed to water.
Fishing
At Lake Edge you can fish from shore, dock or raft or any of the boats. Perch are proliferate and for those willing to spend time fishing and waiting, Katchewanooka can offer up fine Walleye, Small and Large-Mouth Bass, Muskie and Carp.
Boating
At Lake Edge all of our accommodation rates include the use of the canoes, kayaks, paddleboats and rowboats. All safety equipment is included. Your dogs are of course, welcome to join you in all your boating adventures.
Boat & Motor Rentals
If you are interested in exploring Katchewanooka Lake in a speedier fashion, we have 14 ft. boats with 8 hp 4-stroke motors and a pontoon boat available for rent by the week, day or half day. Superb for fishing, trolling or taking a trip into Young’s Point or Lakefield for ice-cream cones, shopping or a trip to the sand bar for a picnic, water-frisbee and a swim.
Guided Pontoon Boat Tours
If you would rather have someone else drive the pontoon boat, guided tours can be arranged to explore Katchewanooka Lake and either Lock 26 in Lakefield or Lock 27 in Young’s Point. Lunch is also an option onboard or at one of our waterfront restaurants in Young’s Point.
Biking
Bring your bicycle and helmet and explore the many trails nearby or enjoy the less busy country roads that meander among the lakes and rolling countryside.
Walking, Hiking Trails & Frog Pond
On-site at Lake Edge you’ll find 12.5 acres of trails through forest and marshland. Great for a morning stroll, jog or the dog’s daily ritual. The on-site trail can give you a 15 to 20 minute leisurely stroll or longer if you stop to enjoy the birds, turtles, frogs, giant fossil-embedded rocks and wildflowers in summer and possibly wildlife sightings or at least tracks in winter. The frog & turtle pond will provide our younger guests with great fun especially with a net for catching the amphibian creatures.
Outdoor games of Bocce, Horseshoes, Badminton & Volleyball
At Lake Edge you can play badminton, volleyball, horseshoes or bocce under a sun-filled sky.
Bonfires
There is nothing better than relaxing around the bonfire, enjoying good company, humour, stories and if you’re lucky a song or two. At Lake Edge we provide the bonfire wood free of charge and have a roaring fire just about every night as long as the weather permits during the summer season. The young and old alike enjoy roasting marshmallows, hotdogs and making “smores”. Of course, if you like to cook on an open fire, you’re more than welcome to as well. We have some great recipes to help make your outdoor cooking a feast to remember! The stars and planets twinkling on the horizon are the perfect ending to a perfect day at Lake Edge.
Loungers and Kawartha Chairs/Sunbathing
Simply put, loungers and Kawartha Chairs are meant for lounging. Soak up the sun, rest in the shade under a canopy of leaves to read a book or enjoy a daytime snooze. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
Bird & Wildlife Watching
No matter what the season you’ll be entertained by the wildlife: chickadees, woodpeckers, great blue herons, ducks, loons, ospreys, bald eagles, grouse, wild turkeys, mink, beaver, muskrat, otters, frogs, turtles, snakes, fox, deer, rabbits, owls, butterflies and of course the dogs. Bring your binoculars and camera! We have reference books for identifying just about everything that might share your vacation with you.

A deposit of $300 per unit per week or $200 per unit for weekend stays is required at time of reservation by credit card. Balance is due upon arrival. Cash, travellers checks, VISA, MasterCard and American Express accepted.

Deposits will be refunded on cancellations received 45+ days prior to reservation, subject to a $50 cancellation fee per deposit. If the cancellation occurs within 45 to 14 days of the reservation, the deposit can be applied to another reservation made at the time of the cancellation for either a weekend or weekly stay within the next 12 months.
Guests wishing to depart before their reserved date of departure will not receive a refund for unused days. |
Check-in and Check-out Policy:
From September to May we can be flexible with our check-in and check-out times within reason if given advance notice. Otherwise a charge will be applied for check-ins earlier than 4:00 PM and for check-outs later than 10:00 AM.
Pet Policy:
Pets are welcome at Lake Edge and must be under control at all times whether on– or off– leash. Our 12.5 acres provides ample room for walks. There is a charge per stay per pet (unless specified otherwise), 20% of which will be donated to the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society or another animal rescue organization. Please pick up after your dog on the lawns, walking trails and parking areas. Do not allow your pets on the beds or sofas/couches as you will incur a supplementary cleaning charge of at least $100 if there is evidence of dog hair or foot prints on the bedding or upholstery. Do not leave your pet alone in the cottage or Kawartha Suite unless the dog is crate trained and you can guarantee that he/she is not a barker. If you require a dog-sitter we will be happy to refer you to one nearby.
Smoking Policy:
All accommodations are smoke free. Our smoking guests must smoke outside, no exceptions. If evidence of smoking is found, a $500 cleaning charge will be applied to your account.

August - Wow! What an amazing place. Lake Edge Cottages exceeded all of our expectations. Our cozy cottage was located steps from the clear lake and the shallow entry beach was perfect for our German Shepard to try swimming. Our three dogs loved the many trails located on the Lake Edge property and we loved lounging on our private dock or porch with a wonderful view. Lake Edge is the epitome of rest and relaxation! June - Peter & Pam, Thanks for a wonderful stay. We’ve had a great time. The weather has been fantastic. The days have been long (sun up 5:30 am, sun down 9:30 pm) and hot (35 C!). The wildlife is spectacular (blue heron, osprey, call of the loon). Had a near miss with a big muskie! Charlie has thoroughly enjoyed the water. He really appreciates your pet-friendly locale.
