Long Description: Top
Formerly known as the Seahorse Inn, Mango Beach is a landmark, waterfront building in local stone with its own dock and a boardwalk direct to Labas Beach. The inn, set in lush tropical gardens, overlooks the tranquil harbour and there is a pool, gazebo and barbeque area where guests can relax and sunbathe or enjoy warm evenings under the stars. Only a few minutes from the lively cafes and bars around the bay and with the Rainforest Hideaway, one of the most famous restaurants in the Caribbean, at the bottom of the garden, Mango Beach guests have a wide choice of dining and entertainment options without taking taxis or hiring cars - see www.rainforesthideawaystlucia.com.

This old inn is run by the owners, John and Judith Verity together with Marie Wilson who has been there for many years and knows everything about the inn and Marigot bay.

Amenities: Top
The Bedrooms

Our four bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and ceiling fans and most of them have air conditioning, TV, fridges and kettles. Some rooms also have private patios where guests can enjoy their early morning coffee with the humming birds and butterflies or watch the latest celebrity yachts gliding into the marina.

Children’s Room

We welcome families and the bedroom with bunk beds opens out onto a shared patio – ideal for parents with children.

Honeymoon Cottage

The Blue Bamboo honeymoon cottage with its secluded patio has a four poster bed and is set apart from the rest of the rooms and communal areas.

Breakfast with a stunning view

Continental breakfast is served overlooking the harbour between 8.30 am and lunchtime – you can stay in bed as long as you like! Alternatively we’ll bring breakfast to your room or patio if you prefer. Our pastries are baked specially for us by Chef Michel of Cafe Nougatine and we always serve a selection of fruit, including mangos in season from our own tree.

Everything else you need

- Wi-fi in the reception area

- Books and board games

- Children’s library, high chair, bunk beds, beach toys...

- Babysitting (we know the grown ups like a night off sometimes)

- Barbeque packs for guests who like to spend their evenings by the pool

Activities: Top

Mango Beach is very conveniently located halfway down the Caribbean coast of the island and within easy reach of the nightlife and beaches of the north and the rainforests, mountains and hotsprings in the south.

But many of our guests never leave the bay – Marigot has a lot to offer apart from sun, sand and a great choice of bars and restaurants:

- Extensive jogging, walking and bird watching trails including a steep ridge climb behind Mango Beach Inn with a meditation deck at the top.

- Sailing

- Diving, snorkelling and whale watching trips (collection from our own dock)

- Kayaks, pedalos, hobie cats and snorkelling equipment for hire on the beach.

- Two very nice spas with a full range of treatments as well as a beauty parlour and hair salon

- A small shopping mall with an upscale boutique, various souvenir and clothing shops, a classy jewellers, business centre, bookshop and art gallery, local pottery and art, a supermarket and a French coffee shop and patisserie. Full service bank.

- Marina and Customs Office – Marigot is a point of entry and a very convenient place to meet friends coming in on boats or pick up a yacht charter.

Mango Beach is on the north side of the bay and you will arrive on Captain Bravo’s ferry which runs 24 hours a day. Your weekly ferry ticket is included in the cost of the room.

LIVING IN A BAY OF STORIES

There’s more to Marigot than its tranquil beauty. Peaceful as it is now, the bay has an exciting history for the curious visitor to discover.

The inn overlooks the famous harbour, historically the haunt of pirates and scene of fierce naval battles. By the 1950s most of the action was make-believe and Marigot became a favourite film location starting with ‘Dr Dolittle’ (the Rex Harrison version), ‘Water’ with Michael Caine and ‘Firepower’ starring Sophia Loren. A host of B movies followed and it was during this period that Marigot became a favourite celebrity hideaway when some of the stars bought villas of their own in the surrounding hills.

The first hotel in the bay, Marigot Yacht Haven (now the five star Discovery) also attracted some high profile guests. Some came quietly and incognito while others were distinctly high profile. After the last moon landing, the astronauts arrived in the bay to debrief and chill out; Gene Cernan presented a model of the lunar module to the hotel and it is currently on display at Mango Beach.

Since the new marina was built, celebrities tend to sail in on their own luxurious superyachts and recent visitors have included Eddie Murphy, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones and a rock and roll legend who delighted guests by bringing his guitar and playing along with the local band.

Marigot is not just a beautiful bay, it is a bay of stories, a bay of surprises, a special place that many visitors fall in love with and never want to leave. Come and stay with us at Mango Beach and let us share with our Marigot magic with you.

Testimonials: Top
My husband and I have enjoyed several stays at Mango Beach and highly recommend it.

Mango Beach Inn is located on the beach side of Marigot Bay. The fee for the ferry to cross the bay to the inn is included in the room price. The ferry operates 24/7 so you're never stranded. The innkeepers, Judith and John Verity, are warm, congenial hosts who are very knowledgable about St. Lucia's natural beauty and the island's vibrant art and culture.

We stayed in rooms #5 and #6, both of which have air-conditioning, king-sized beds, en suite bathrooms and shaded patios looking over the magnificent tropical gardens and the inner bay. The beds are fantastically comfortable. We liked sleeping with a/c but if you want a truly tropical experience you can leave the doors and windows open and sleep under the mosquito netting.

Each morning, Marie, the inn's housekeeper, prepared our breakfast - juice, yogurt, fresh fruit salad made with local produce (bananas, grapefruit, pinepple, papaya, mango, etc.,) fresh whole-grain baguette with butter, jam or marmite, french press coffe or tea. Marie was always happy to provide us with other breakfast items if we requested them. There's nothing like watching mega-yachts and catamarans sail in and out of the inner harbor while eating breakfast!

The inn is very quiet and peaceful; it's location on the far side of Marigot Bay makes it a 2-minute walk to Labas beach, on Marigot Bay's outer harbor. The beach is small but very child-friendly; the water is fairly shallow and there aren't any real waves. Swim out a bit from shore to see lots of colorful fish. You can rent non-motorized water toys from Cosmo who offers a comprehensive array of toys right on the beach. We loved the fact that local families enjoy the beach as well as yachties and people staying at the inns and hotels around the bay.

Or, stay pool-side at the inn. Loungers, a shaded area and a grill make the pool area a great place to hang out. (If you want to barbecue Marigourmet in the Marina Village is a small but well-stocked supermarket.)

The inn is located above the RainForest Hideaway restaurant, rated one of the top Caribbean dining experiences. We had a wonderful 5-course vegetarian meal. We recommend reservations and calling in advance to discuss vegetarian options. There are several other restaurants in Marigot Bay. We've enjoyed: yummy baguette sandwiches and gelato at the bakery in the Marina Village shopping center, pizza and veg. plates made with local produce at Chateau Mygo (where it's always Happy Hour,) and a reasonably-priced meal at the Hurricane Hole pub, located within Discovery at Marigot Bay. Try the pumpkin soup!

Marigot Bay is one of the most beautiful harbors in the Caribbean and Mango Beach Inn is a fantastic place to enjoy this fabulous location."
