Long Description: Top
The Lodge at Chaa Creek has pioneered natural history travel to Belize since 1981 and has worked with some of the world’s premier travel and adventure tour companies.

As a private 345-acre nature reserve set along the banks of the Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, we have provided a unique rainforest experience for thousands of people while maintaining an unspoiled ambience. Chaa Creek Inland Expeditions caters to the traveler looking for both physical and intellectual challenges, and our range of programs and activities has been designed to stimulate interest in the environment, culture, natural history, and archaeology of Belize.

Due to our dedicated efforts in environmental conservation, natural history education, and sustainable tourism, Chaa Creek’s rainforest reserve has received the following awards:

2003 & 2004 "Best Eco Resort"
Recognized by Caribbean Travel & Life

"2002 World's Best Awards"
Recognized by Travel + Leisure

2002 Condé Nast Traveler
"Ecotourism Award"

ISLANDS Magazine/Caribbean Tourism Organization
“2001 Caribbean Sustainable Tourism Award"

American Society of Travel Agents
“The 2001 ASTA Environmental Award”

Belize Tourism Board
“Hotel of the Year 2000”

American Express and the Caribbean Hotel Association
“1998 Green Hotel of the Year”

Our jungle lodge has 23 charming palm-thatched cottage rooms including two garden suites and two jacuzzi tree top suites nestled along the riverside in a setting of unmatched beauty and tranquility. Travelers share stories and relax at our verandah bar before enjoying delicious meals in the Chaa Creek restaurant.

The Macal River Camp, located within the nature reserve a half a mile down river from the lodge, features screened casitas on individual, raised covered platforms with private verandahs and easy chairs. Comfortable beds with fresh linens, a traditional Mestizo kitchen from which wholesome Belizean meals are served by friendly local staff, ensure a unique and relaxing rainforest experience.

The Chaa Creek Natural History Centre gives students and visitors a fascinating overview of Belize’s archeological, cultural, and natural wonders. A team of archaeologists, directed by Dr. Richard Leventhal of UCLA, has completed preliminary excavations on three of the over 70 Maya sites at Chaa Creek, and many of the artifacts found are on display in the Centre.

The Butterfly Farm, where we breed the stunning Belizean blue morpho, continues to be a major attraction as people marvel at the splendid iridescent blue wings of these magnificent butterflies. The "Belizean Blue" can be observed during every stage of its life cycle, from egg to caterpillar to pupa to butterfly. Chaa Creek’s Natural History Centre and Butterfly Farm offer hourly tours and guided thematic nature walks, as well as intriguing slide presentations by our professionally trained naturalist guides.

The Spa at Chaa Creek, which opened in February 2000, is set above the Macal River with a panoramic view of the Maya Mountains and lush Belizean rainforest. Along with our professional staff and state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, the Spa provides a tranquil and extraordinary sensory experience that promotes harmony between the inner and outer self.

Amenities: Top
The cottage compound, within the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve, provides a perfect compromise between comfort and a true wilderness experience. Each palm-thatched cottage has Mexican tiled floors, large mahogany beds, original artwork and private bathrooms with hot showers. Spacious sundeck verandahs allow guests to view wildlife and interact with nature.

Chaa Creek now offers the Garden Suite for those looking for an extra luxurious rainforest stay.

Imagine a spacious thatched roof cottage surrounded by private tropical gardens, affording an extra measure of comfort and a beautiful, quiet ambience. The cottage consists of two separate suites (one with a private Jacuzzi) with a connecting door. The suites may be rented separately, or as an entire package. We offer three different options for this unique experience.

The Jacuzzi Suite is furnished with a four-poster mahogany bed, fine linens, Guatemalan antique armoire, a spacious bath with Jacuzzi and a private screened verandah with jungle garden.

The Luxury Suite is furnished with a queen size bed and a day bed that converts from a couch into a single bed. This room also has a private, screened verandah and lovely views.

The cottage also features a common verandah with hammocks overlooking the gardens. Both rooms have ceiling fans, lamps, reading lights and are fully screened. They offer a level of private, casual luxury exceptional even by Chaa Creek’s standards.

The new Jacuzzi Tree Top Suites appear to defy gravity as they perch eye level amongst the upper most branches of the majestic hardwoods that surround them along the steep forested banks of the Macal River in Belize's Cayo District. The large and airy suites combine elegance with a unique sense of adventurous design as tall tree trunks pierce through encircling sundecks competing for a breathtaking view of the jungle landscape.

The full amenity one-bedroom suites, with their own private Jacuzzi perched upon stargazing verandas, offer the perfect romantic setting for the honeymoon couple. The suites can also easily accommodate family groups with comfortable sleeping arrangements for four. The tree top suites, under an enormous canopy of thatch, extend an extraordinary experience to nature lovers who want to take part in the many rainforest activities that award-winning Chaa Creek has to offer.

Your place, hospitality and service were superb. We have not stayed in a place where we felt more comfortable in such a beautiful setting. The staff was attentive to all our needs. The cave tour was fantastic and will be a highlight of our touring adventures. When we return to Belize you will be on our agenda. Thank you for showing us such a wonderful time.

We have been in heaven here. We have been many places but truly, we can finally say without a doubt, which is our favorite, its Chaa Creek. We will never stop telling the world about it. Thanks so much for all the years and energy you have taken to make it exist. In our life we may never find anything that compares.
