Long Description: Top
The "old Rambo house" is enjoyed by old house fans and loved by lovers. The rooms are large and comfortable. See them at www.prospect-ill.com. An architect-designed home built in 1889 it has a modern feel with large rooms and large windows. The furnishings aren't stuffy. The house is appointed to encourage relaxation and enjoyment.
Old-house buffs and those interested in renovation and building can get a tour of the inn with their interests as the focus.
Those seeking solace may want a comfortable chair on the front porch, upper porch or private balcony (Room 5 only). Indoors, the rooms are very comfortable, large, private romantic, and relaxing. They feature king or queen-size beds and gas log fireplaces (except #3).
Room 1 has TWO fireplaces! All also have central heat and air conditioning plus ceiling fans.
Judy decorated the home's parlor and dining room in Craftsman style antiques and Stickley Co. furnishings (c.1997). The guest rooms feature a non-fussy, eclectic mix of styles-all traditional but not one period. "And certainly not high Victorian," she says.

Rooms:
All feature robes, candles, snacks, TV, bubble bath for tubs, phones, down or synthetic comforters and lots of relaxation. Several have historic stained and colored glass, three-state views.and a warm sense of home.
Stroll the inn's three acre property.

Romance Rooms:
Rooms 1, 2 and 4 feature king- or queen-size beds and private bathes with whirlpool tubes for two, robes, a fireplace in the bedroom (#1 has one in the bath, too), colored or historic glass windows, views and lots of space.

Deluxe Rooms:
Queen size bed, private bathroom with over-size shower stall. Room 5 also has a claw tub, a gas log fireplace, and Dorothy's pouting porch, a small balcony-like porch with a three-state view. Room #3 can have a twin bed for a third person. (Fee for adults; free for children under age 12.)

Breakfast:
"We hesitate to call our full breakfasts gourmet," says Robert. They include some favorites and some flash backs, particularly as we look into what "trendy" people might have been eating during our youth.
The selection includes Strawberry or seasonal fruit-filled crepes, a Dutch Baked Apple Pancake and an early 80s entre: Brown Sugar Oatmeal Pancakes. Robert is the chef for these tasty dishes. They are always accompanied by juice and fresh fruit, and, optionally, eggs, bacon, muffins and cereal. Snacks provided in the room.

On any historic house something is always under repair, renovation or development. Prospect Hill is no different. Work continues on the new removal and rebuilding of the sun room on the back, a new Pavilion building designed for meetings and weddings as well as work on the landcaping and a half dozen historic outbuildings.
Visit with Tiger Lily, our kitty, who lives in the sunroom (not the rest of the inn). Quinn, our small dog, will do his favorite trick for you.

Back In Your Room...
Guests enjoy a number of items standard with their room: bathrobes, gas log fireplaces, ceiling fans, bubble bath for the whirlpool tubs, scented candles, bottled beverage, snack basket, in-room phones and cable TV (or the removal of the TV on request).
"We can make the TV go away if this is important to you," say the innkeepers.
Relax. Find your favorite star in the unpolluted sky. Count the fireflies in summer. Be surprised by a blue bird in spring.
Innkeepers Judy and Robert Hotchkiss will make you welcome.

This is the place for hikers (Appalachian Trail), bikers (Virginia Creeper bike and horse trail), nature lovers, boaters, trout fishermen (Watauga Lake) and those who want to explore small town America - where there are no tourist shops and what is there is truly rural American.
Day 1: Ski in North Carolina or poke around in the quaint shops in Blowing Rock and savor the view from Grandfather Mountain (and test your wits on the suspension bridge which sits one mile above sea level).
Day 2: Bike (rental available) from the top of Mt. Rogers, Virginia, and coast down OR bike along Virginia Creeper Trail, the lovely rails-to-trails path. Or ride trail on horseback. Dine in Abingdon, Virginia, or attend a play at Barter Theater.
Day 3: Look for the unusual in the antique stores in Elizabeton,Tenn., tour a cave or two or step back to the colonial era at Rocky Mount, a living history museum portraying the first years of governorship of the State of Franklin (now Tennessee).
Day 4: Visit the cheese factory in West Jefferson and the nearby frescoes, including the pregnant Madona. If it's Friday, check out the old time country music at the Mountain City Rec Center or bid on some interesting items at a local auction house.
Day 5: In December, choose and cut your Christmas tree from one of many tree farms nearby. You may snowshoe on Roan Mountain or ride the bristol Motor Speedway on America's fastest half mile (Christmas lights through early January.)

Testimonials: Top
Honeymooners (IL) - This B&B and area were exactly what we both hoped for: low key, relaxing and not too demanding.
Anniversary (VA) - We enjoyed the scenery and our dinner at Suba's was excellent. Rest, relax and omance, too. The three "R"s we will come here again for.
Anniversary (TN) He and I feel refreshed and relaxed. I'm ready to teach another gorup of 5th graders!
Honeymooners (VA) Prospect hilsl is beautiful not only in structure and decor but in atmostphere and pleasantry. We hope to return soon.
First time B&Bers (NC) - A very surprising experience for our first bed and breakfast. I don't think we will waste much more money on hotels.
Family from Holland - The breakfasts were velicious; so were your cake, coffee and tea!
Traveling honeymoon (NC) - Outstanding B&B made possible by outstnading innkeepers-- Judy and Robert. Dont' believe the stories about this place being "haunted." There is way too much love going on in the romance room(s) for this to be possible!
20th anniversary (TN) - We wanted to find a place with special character and quiet surroundings. Your home reminded us of our 1910 house bak in NJ with old hardwoods, high ceilings and open stiarways. It was a beautiful experience!
Vacation travelers (GA) - We enjoyed the spa tub and hearing about the house's history, ghosts (?) and renovations and the breakfast was wonderful! We enjoyed talking with the others guests and plan to stay in touch. I can't wait to tell other people about this B&B. This is the best one we've stayed in!
